Absanie Baptist Church was established in 1832 in the City of AbsanieAllen Wright asked a preacher, Rev. Obed Jenkins to come to Absanie to help establish a church. Rev. Jenkins accepted the call.  He was the first pastor of Absanie BC.

Absanie BC was the first church established in Absanie.  It is the oldest church in the city.

Absanie BC began small, but now it is the largest church in the city.  The membership totals over 3,000 people. People from the city of Absanie and surrounding cities are members.

Absanie BC has been influential in many city and state events. The church has also helped many area homeless people, battered women, and abused children.  The church has many outreach programs that help the city's residents. Many of the people who have been helped by the church have given their lives to Christ.

The church was first built in 1833.  It was placed in the middle of the city.  Much of the city that was built after the church was built, was built around the church.  During The Water Crisis, Absanie Baptist Church helped the families of the men who were fighting in the battles.  They also held prayer vigils during the fights.  Josias Carter used the church as a meeting place. He held rallies at the church. He was an influential leader in the movement for African-American rights in Maddocha. A number of other well-known speakers, preachers, and governmental officials have also used the church. The Absanie Community Choir has used the church to records all of its albums at the church.  The church was remodeled 20 years later.  The church was torn down, relocated, and rebuilt in 1870.  A new sanctuary was built in 1965. It was able to hold over 1,000 people.

The church has always had great support from its members, the city residents, and the city businesses.

The current building was built in 1984.  This location is in the center of the city.  Two businesses had to relocate to accommodate the move of the church.  They freely relocated.  The church was moved back to its original and historic location.

In 1999, the church had grown beyond its walls.  Three Sunday services were instituted to accommodate the people. There was an 8AM, 10AM, and 12PM service added.

The three Sunday services became taxing on the church, so the church was expanded to add 5,000 extra seats in 2001. It took a lot of prayer, hard work, and perserverance, but the building project was completed in 2003. Now, there are only two Sundy services, one at 8AM and one at 11AM.

For its 160-year anniversary, the minister of music, Ike Jenkins (descendant of Obed Jenkins), released an album to commemorate the occasion. Past and present members of the choir got together for the recording. The album was released on Baumann Records in 1993. The project was very successful.

Absanie Baptist Church still stands today as a beacon of truth, help, and light for the city of Absanie and the surrounding cities.

In January of 2006, Dr. Donovan Jenkins stepped down as pastor to become the full-time president of the Maddocha Baptist Churches Association.  His son, Rev. Donovan K. Jenkins, was unanimously voted as pastor and installed in February 2006.
